The Centers for Medicare & Medicare Services (CMS) has released Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) payment adjustment information for the 2024 performance period/2026 MIPS payment year.

  • Your 2024 MIPS final score determines the MIPS payment adjustment you’ll receive in 2026.

  • A positive, negative, or neutral payment adjustment will be applied to the Medicare paid amount for covered professional services furnished in 2026.

Your 2024 MIPS performance score is now available for you to review.

It is very important that you review your score NOW. There have been mistakes in the past and you only have a short time to identify those issues and request a Targeted Review to get any errors corrected.

You want to make sure you get full credit for the work you did in 2024 and do not get a penalty due to an administrative or technical error. Once the Targeted Review deadline has passed, you cannot get your score corrected.

Failure to report may result in a 9% penalty on CMS Payments

Practices that are required to report MIPS will experience a 9% negative payment adjustment for 2026. This penalty can be mitigated or potentially completely avoided by submitting 2024 MIPS data.

MIPS is comprised of 4 elements

  • Promoting Inter-operability
  • Improvement Activities
  • Quality Reporting
  • and Cost

If you are required to report, Registry Clearinghouse can assist you with the reporting process
